Meet Rebeca Daminelli Rebeca is an experienced operations professional with over 15 years of expertise in project and program management across corporate and nonprofit sectors. She holds a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Universidade Federal do Paraná in Brazil. With a deep belief in the power of the arts to connect people and create meaningful change, Rebeca is committed to fostering initiatives that strengthen the local arts community. Ask Me Anything - with Rebeca Daminelli What is your artistic background? Although I don’t have formal training in the arts, I grew up deeply immersed in creative activities, taking dance classes three times a week, performing in theatre, and singing in choirs. My favourite experiences, and where I dedicate most of my free time, have always revolved around the arts: attending concerts and plays, visiting museums, and exploring cultural events. In recent years, I have ventured into community theatre productions and absolutely loved the collaborative process and the thrill of performing. What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job? I believe my greatest strength is a result of the combination of my passion for the arts and the organizational skills I have developed over the years working in large corporations. I thrive on challenges and tend to analyze problems from a broader perspective, which I consider valuable in an environment as fluid and vibrant as the world of the arts. I also enjoy working with people and am continually inspired by the incredible capacity individuals have to create new realities through artistic expression. Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about? I like to think that I am genuinely funny and tell some of the best jokes and puns. Please don’t fact-check this one with my kids!

  • Meet the Team: Eunju Yi, Executive Director

Eunju Yi is a dedicated arts administrator, inspiring arts educator & public speaker and creative storyteller. Meet Eunju Yi Eunju Yi (Post Graduate Diploma in Arts Management (UWO), BA in Theatre (Kyungsung University)) is a strategic arts manager and inspiring public speaker, serving as Executive Director of the London Arts Council (LAC) since 2021 and a board member of the RBC Place London (London Convention Centre) since 2022. Her extensive experience as an artist, arts educator, and arts manager in Korea and Canada contributes to her unwavering support of the arts and culture internationally. Since she joined the team in 2012, Yi has contributed to the LAC in various areas, such as public art, arts education, arts programs, fund development, fund allocation, special projects, diversity & inclusion, and truth & reconciliation, before obtaining the position of Executive Director after a national search process conducted by the LAC board. As the Executive Director, Yi manages the organization’s day-to-day operations and program areas, supports the organization’s governance function through quarterly meetings and reports to the board, initiates high-profile business proposals, and maintains key partnerships by working closely with the City of London Culture Services, and the LAC’s team of six professional Arts Administrators with diverse artistic and cultural backgrounds. Yi represents the organization on local, provincial, and national occasions through professional networks and meetings, as well as various speaking engagements, such as the National Liberation Day of Korea Official Ceremony (2012-2023), Beginning (2022, national conversations for disability art), London Chamber of Commerce Annual Summit (2022), London UNESCO City of Music Conference (2023), London UNESCO City of Music Expo (2023), and many other occasions, as a guest speaker, a panelist, or an emcee. Her broad spectrum of interests includes, but is not limited to, cultural planning, cultural policy development, international and national practices of the arts, and the roles and functions of intergovernmental organizations. Ask Me Anything - with Eunju Yi What is your artistic background? I studied theatre for my undergraduate program at Kyungsung University in Busan, South Korea. I participated in a number of diverse theatre projects as an actor, play writer, director, production manager, lighting, sound crew, etc. Each project taught me great life lessons, helped me to broaden/deepen my perspectives and gain new insight, led me to push my boundaries/comfort zone, and made me further explore, experience, and learn. Through theatre, I found my language and vocabulary to communicate with the world. I was able to keep my balance between my ideology and reality and discover many ways to reconnect with myself for meaningful self-reflection. What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job? Intuition. Intuition helps me to collect vast amounts of information about people, situations, etc. in a very short time, which helps me to make sharp and sound judgements and come up with working strategies. What do you want to make sure you do before you die? I want to live in an old castle in a European country with my family and surround myself with antique furniture, objects, artworks, music (including musical instruments), and books. Thinking about historical items that contain hundreds of years of stories about space, era, and people is fascinating. I will enjoy breathing in and living in the space that is filled with stories.

  • Meet Kay Ojo, the Artist behind the Jazz Resonance: Notes from the Thames Exhibition

The Gallery In response to demand from local artists for exhibition space and to promote and celebrate our talented local artists, the London Arts Council and the City of London Culture Services have collaborated with RBC Place London to pilot The Gallery program at RBC Place London as part of our London Arts Live (LAL) program offerings. The purpose of The Gallery is to promote the work of artists and creators residing in London and surrounding First Nations to display original artworks for exhibition, with sales opportunities, on highly prominent and specially designated wall space within this municipally owned building. Artist Kay Ojo For the seventh exhibition, The Gallery featured artworks created by Olukayode (Kay) Ojo , a Nigerian-born Canadian artist whose work blends contemporary and traditional African influences into a bold, abstract expressionist style. A graduate of the University of Benin, where he studied under renowned contemporary art masters, Kay earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours. His art is defined by spontaneity, loose brushstrokes, and emotive storytelling. His paintings have been exhibited in prestigious venues, including the 2022 Art à la Carte  exhibition at the Legislative Building in Toronto. His works are also held in the collections of Museum London and The Art Emporium in Port Stanley. He has painted portraits of notable figures, including former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. An Interview with Kay Ojo Jazz Resonance: Notes from the Thames by Kay Ojo (August - December, 2025) Q: Tell us the story behind the work that makes up this exhibition. How did it start? What was it inspired by? A:  The theme for this exhibition titled Jazz Resonance: Notes from the Thames is based on celebrating the City of London that was designated as the first UNESCO City of Music in 2023. Thankfully, I was invited as a guest artist to paint live at the event. I thought a jazz theme would fit as a body of work for this exhibition, to celebrate the vibrant music base in the city.   Q: What inspires you as an artist? A:  I am inspired by nature, society, music, abstract ideas, current affairs, history, and a longing to add to the beauty around me. This is actually a lot to draw inspirations from, and as evident in my art, I paint a wide range of themes. This is because I consider inspirations as borderless. As an artist, I am a channel of creativity in the hands of the Universe. That is more of a spiritual connection to my art, and I love to appreciate my art after signing it, trying to understand how I came about some of the art I create. I attempt to create the general atmosphere and the essence of things instead of realistic and beautiful pictures. I hope that my art would solve the ‘problems of the future’ by creating art that give happiness and peace. I believe that if the mind is constantly surrounded by beauty, by adding art as part of our homes, public facilities and landscapes, the world would be more peaceful as we would have less aggression, conflicts and wars.   Q: Walk us through the creative process behind this work. How do you go about making these paintings? A:  Honestly, I don’t have a work template for the actual creation process that is replicable. What is constant about my process is the use of the highest quality materials I can lay my hands on. I don’t compromise on top quality materials. The reason being that nobody knows when a masterpiece would be created, so I don’t want to end up with a great piece on paper towel. Then, I usually work on multiple canvases at a time. I usually start by subduing the surface by blinding it , and get a connection with the image I see on the canvas, then I go ahead with the creation. I occasionally just want to document a beautiful flower I see, or a beautiful sunset I witnessed, but generally, I only paint as my soul leads. I usually don’t attempt to create art that is beautiful. I just want to create art that is true. I love to suggest to the mind, and allow the audience to complete the story in their minds.   Q: Why does creativity matter to you? A:  I found myself in art not only because I love art and love to create it, but I believe art is a divine calling for me. It is a way of conveying emotive messages, peace and love to the audience.      Q: What is it like being a creative here in London? Are there gaps that currently exist when it comes to supporting the Arts? What kind of support is needed? A:  London is a great city for an artist to live, create art, and collaborate with other artists as well as art groups and organizations. I have collaborated with the London Art Council in their London Arts Live programs. I have also displayed and sold my art through The Museum London gift shop. I have been a member of London Community Artists and the Lambeth Art Association in the past. I am still part of the London Artists’ Studio Tour. My work is currently in the ongoing ArtComp organized by 100 Kellogg Lane. I have also been in the art exhibitions at TAP Centre for Creativity organized by the Simple Reflections for Artists. London is active with art, and I am thankful to live here.   Q: What do you envision now for your future in the Arts here in London? A:  As a fulltime artist, I plan to continue with my art. I plan to create my art in other forms and use new and unconventional materials.   Q: What made you most excited about putting yourself out there to work with the London Arts Council and RBC Place London for this exhibition? A:  I appreciate the exciting opportunity to work with organizations like the London Arts Council and RBC Place London that have supported the creative industry in the city of London. It is a great chance to connect with the public and a platform to get my art across to larger audience.   Q: We hope to see lots more of your artwork around the city. Where else can we find your artwork? A:  Thank you for this great opportunity to collaborate with The London Art Council and RBC Place London to present my art to the art community and the City of London. After 21 years with the London Arts Council, Rebekah Morrison-Wize, LAC’s Officer, Arts Investments, has decided that it is time to retire and begin the next chapter of her life.   Since nearly the very beginnings of the London Arts Council, Rebekah has lovingly supported and witnessed the growth of both the organization and London’s arts community. She roots for the artists and arts organizations as if they were her own children—advocating for them, cheering them on, and feeling immense pride in their accomplishments. Her words of encouragement, her thoughtful listening, and her unwavering care for every one of her LAC colleagues have made her not just a coworker, but a guiding presence and a source of comfort and strength for all who have had the pleasure of working alongside her.   Over her more than two decades managing the Community Arts Investment Program (CAIP) and leading LAC’s fund development portfolio, Rebekah has worked tirelessly with assessors and partners to distribute critical funding for arts organizations and artist-led projects across the city. Her work has not only provided essential resources to artists and arts organizations—it has also nurtured a culture of respect, collaboration, and community that will remain her legacy.   Rebekah’s departure is bittersweet. While we are overjoyed for her as she steps into a well-earned retirement, we feel the deep sense of loss that comes when a family member moves on. Rebekah has been at the heart of the LAC family, inspiring and uplifting all of us with her warmth, and kindness. Her presence will be deeply missed every day.   We wish Rebekah all the best in this exciting new chapter and look forward to staying connected with her as both colleague and friend. Her impact on LAC and the arts community in London is immeasurable, and her spirit will always be a part of who we are. If you’d like to come visit Rebekah at the LAC office before her last day, she will be in office Tues – Thurs, 9:30a.m. – 4:30p.m., until Wednesday, October 8t h.  Message from Rebekah "I am so very thankful for the opportunities given and relationships developed and enjoyed as a member of the LAC team. From a young age, her dad (also a musician of 25 years) encouraged her vocal performances. Her musical style transitioned from pop to rock before she arrived at alt-pop—a genre that feels like a safe space for her. “I can write how I feel. Alt can be anything; it doesn’t have to be either happy or sad,” she says. Today, Bella’s lyrics are informed by her dreams, journal entries and the everyday challenges she confronts living in uncertain times. Bella has won multiple awards for her music videos: ‘Dead Lies’ won Best Music Video at the 2021 Toronto International Women Film Festival and ‘Just A Game’ took home Bronze at the 42nd Annual Telly Awards 2021. Both videos were also officially selected for the 2021 Montreal Independent Film Festival. Saveria Saveria is a 27-year-old London, ON-based artist.  An accomplished guitar player, vocal powerhouse, gifted songwriter, and producer, she has over a decade of professional experience in the industry. While most children were learning nursery rhymes, Saveria was being schooled by the greats from the soul, Motown, and rock eras. Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The Strokes, Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer, Joss Stone, and Wings were staples in her family collection of CDs and vinyl, laying a strong foundation for her groove, melodic, and pop sensibilities. Tyrone Traher & the Rottweilers Tyrone Traher II is a singer-songwriter that is proudly based in London, ON. Throughout the creation of his debut album, Traher created a backing band of brooding poets known as Tyrone Traher & the Rottweilers to showcase the true identity of his own original music. As an artist second and a human first, Traher values humility, vulnerability, honesty, and compassion, and uses these principles as the foundation of his artistry and career. Pot is Drugs Pot Is Drugs, a genre-fluid indie rock band from London, Ontario, was formed in 2021 by four friends. "We probably should have started a podcast but picked up instruments instead." They blend sharp hooks, emotional chaos, and just the right amount of self-awareness into a sound that’s loud, honest, and built for screaming in your car at red lights. Whether you’re in the mood to laugh, shout, or just feel something, we’ve probably got a song for that. Tracks like “How To Talk To Girls,” “Darling (Satellites),” and “What’s It Like,” are packed with infectious riffs, shoutable choruses, and lyrics that walk the line between funny and painfully relatable. They pull influence from indie icons and garage greats like The Strokes, The Black Keys, Jack White, and Mac DeMarco. The result is something we call Southern Ontario awkrock. renforshort Born Lauren Isenberg, the Toronto-born singer/songwriter grew up in a musical family with three brothers who also played instruments and parents who’d play Amy Winehouse and Stevie Wonder concert videos in the background while preparing dinner. By high school, Lauren began composing what would become her first singles on piano and performed at open mic nights in Toronto. Releasing her lush, R&B/pop debut single "waves" in 2019, Lauren soon followed up with the teasing and upbeat "mind games," two EPs (teenage angst (2020) and off saint dominique (2021)), and a bracingly honest debut album, dear amelia (2022). renforshort has garnered over 200 million streams worldwide. She has collaborated with Travis Barker, Jake Bugg, Mike Shinoda, toured Europe with Lauv in 2023, and signed to Nettwerk Music Group, where she will continue to release music with her new single "serpentine" out now.  Extravabandza 2025 Raffle How the Raffle Works: Extravabandza will host a series of raffles giving attendees the chance to win Downtown Dollars Gift Cards . • The Gallery: Meet Ani Sarian, the Artist behind the Traces of Time Exhibition

For the sixth exhibition, The Gallery featured artworks created by Ani Sarian , a local visual artist. Born in Damascus, Syria, Ani Sarian is of Armenian descent. From an early age, she found solace in painting, using art to express her inner thoughts and emotions. For Sarian, art serves as a refuge—a safe space where she can process and understand the world around her. Sarian studied at the Djemaran Academy in Aleppo from 1978-1980 and the Sarian Academy in 1981. In 2012, as the war in Syria escalated, Sarian and her family relocated to Canada (2016), seeking safety and stability. In this peaceful environment, Sarian has once again immersed herself in her creative practice. An Interview with Ani Sarian Traces of Time by Ani Sarian (May - August 25, 2025) Q : Tell us the story behind the work that makes up the Traces of Time exhibition. How did it start? What was it inspired by? A:   Traces of Time  began as a deeply personal exploration into memory and the quiet ways time leaves its mark on both the body and environment. It was inspired by moments that slip through the cracks of everyday life — textures fading on walls, shadows shifting across a room, and emotional echoes of places once familiar. I wanted to capture the poetry in those traces and how they whisper. Q:  What inspires you as an artist? A:  I’m constantly inspired by the in-between — those liminal spaces where emotion meets form, memory meets material. Nature, decay, urban solitude, and the emotional resonance of overlooked details feed my imagination. I’m also deeply moved by human vulnerability in our attempts to hold on, to remember, to make meaning. Q: Walk us through the creative process behind this work. How do you go about creating these fascinating images which sit on the cusp between representation and abstraction? A:  My process often begins intuitively — with a gesture, a mark, a texture that feels right. I work in layers, allowing the piece to evolve rather than planning it rigidly. I let accidents happen and then respond. It’s a dialogue between control and surrender. I aim to evoke rather than describe — so what emerges might resemble something familiar, but it resists full recognition. That ambiguity is intentional — it invites personal interpretation. Q: Why does creativity matter to you? A:  Creativity is how I process the world. It’s a form of witnessing, of translating what can’t be said out loud. It creates connection—between inner and outer worlds, between people. In a society that often demands certainty and speed, creativity allows for pause, reflection, and vulnerability. It’s essential, not optional. Q: What is it like being a creative here in London? Are there gaps that currently exist when it comes to supporting the Arts? What kind of support is needed? A:  London is rich with artistic energy, but it can also be isolating and inaccessible—especially for emerging or underrepresented artists. There’s a need for more grassroots platforms, affordable studio spaces, and sustained mentorship, not just exposure. We need investment in not just finished products but the messy, unseen process of creation. Q: What do you envision now for your future in the Arts here in London? A:  I see myself building more community — collaborating across disciplines, mentoring younger artists, and creating immersive experiences that bring people into deeper engagement with art. I want to keep pushing the boundaries of my medium while staying grounded in honesty and emotional resonance. Q: What made you most excited about putting yourself out there to work with the London Arts Council and RBC Place London for this exhibition? A:  The invitation to share vulnerable, process-driven work in a public space felt both bold and affirming. Collaborating with the London Arts Council and RBC Place meant being part of a conversation — about what art can be, and who it’s for. I felt seen not just as an artist, but as a storyteller. Q: We hope to see lots more of your artwork around the city. Where else can we find your artwork? A:  You can find more of my work online on my Instagram page @ani_sarian . View the Traces of Time Exhibition at RBC Place London on the following dates: May 13 | 11:00am - 9:30pm May 15 | 11:00am - 9:00pm May 16 | 12:00pm - 8:00pm May 17 | 9:00am - 9:00pm May 21 - 25 | 9:00am - 6:00pm May 26 | 1:00 pm - 9:00pm May 28 | 10:00am - 8:00pm May 29 | 11:00am - 8:00pm June 2 - 6 | 8:00am - 5:00pm June 7 | 8:00am - 11:00am June 11 | 12:00pm - 4:00pm June 12 | 8:00am - 5:00pm June 16 | 9:30am - 2:30pm June 18 | 9:00am - 5:00pm June 19 | 9:00am - 4:00pm June 23 - 30 | 8:00am - 4:00pm July 3 | 11:00am - 2:00pm July 10 | 11:00am - 2:00pm August 14 | 11:00am - 2:00pm               August 22 | 11:00am - 2:00pm August 23 | 4:00pm - 9:00pm ** enter via the main doors on York St.** The objectives of the Gallery program are: to create a beautiful, unique, and cultured atmosphere; provide compelling experiences for local, national, and international visitors; educate the public by presenting a series of diverse artworks created by local professional artists; and provide professional opportunities for local artists, including increased promotion, sales, and career enhancement.
