About the Event
Lucas Tensen uses his skills as a multi-instrumentalist, instrument maker, vocalist and songwriter to facilitate interactive community events, performances and workshops. After years of classical training as a cellist, Lucas travelled to Senegal in 2008 to learn the kora. Using gourds and wooden salad bowls as resonators, Lucas now makes koras of various shapes and sizes. He also plays the Japanese shakuhachi flute, the rav drum (an instrument similar to the hang drum) and vintage aluminum pots transformed into singing bowls.
Eve Thompson has been playing instruments since she was 4 years old, but found herself at age 13 having a particular affinity to the cello. Now studying cello as her degree at Western University, Eve is always learning how to create new and interesting sounds with her instruments, as well as experimenting with a variety of different genres. Classically trained by nature but folksy at heart, Eve's performances are sure to be both exciting and timeless.
A violinist, a fiddler......it depends on the day, season, venue, or fellow musicians, Mary Ashton just loves to make music with her violin. Hornpipes, jigs or reels aplenty, a dash of Greek or Arabic song and some soulful renditions of classics like "Summertime, all spring from her violin with energy and joy.
