Welcome to the London Arts Council
The London Arts Council (LAC) works with public, private, and community partners to build and sustain Londoners’ awareness of, involvement in, and support for all artistic disciplines across the city.
Our programs in education, health, and community provide paid opportunities for professional artists to create and deliver artworks as well as, support arts organizations in London, ON.
Indigenous London Arts
Curator Summer Bressette and Designer Katie Wilhelm led the London Arts Council team in curating a virtual space to celebrate, honour, and share local Indigenous arts and culture in the spirit of the Two-Row Wampum and Two-Eyed Seeing.
This virtual space represents a commitment from the London Arts Council to foster relationship building, as the consensual sharing of knowledge concerning Indigenous history, culture, and philosophy is the first step in this process.
The London Arts Council is committed to working in peace and healing with all Indigenous people. We work closely with the surrounding First Nations communities: Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee-Delaware Nation.

![Today, June 21, is Indigenous Solidarity Day, also known as National Indigenous Peoples Day. With June being Indigenous History Month, this is a time for Canadians to recognize the diverse cultures across First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, the history of the land stewarded and honoured by Indigenous communities, and the significance of Indigenous knowledge, including the preservation of language and traditions.
LAC acknowledges the importance of ongoing learning and advocacy to uplift Indigenous voices, which is why actionable and sustainable reconciliation is at the root our relationships with the surrounding First Nations communities: Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee-Delaware Nation.
Photos: Quashtaadying “Coming Together” by Garrett Nahdee @nahdeearts.
Nahdee is an incredibly talented self-taught artist from Walpole Island First Nation. Quashtaadying depicts a rare occasion, the eclipse, which in Indigenous beliefs signifies the Grandfather Sun and Grandmother Moon reuniting.
“My work depicts a grandmother in the 7 grandfather teachings, which emphasizes the important role of grandmothers, often overlooked, although they carry and provide the 7 teachings for the community. […] I included the eagle at the top as the eagle represents love. Then we have Grandfather Sun and Grandmother Moon reuniting in the eclipse. Then we have the beaver for wisdom, the raven for honesty, the wolf for humility, the bear for courage, the bison for respect, and all of which are resting on the shell of the turtle. The Indigenous community calls North America Turtle Island. The turtle represents the truth, symbolizing that we live in alignment with our values. We must teach, defend, and abide by the truth.”
