About

Artists in Practice – Workshop Series is a targeted initiative designed to support emerging and mid- career visual artists in London and surrounding First Nations communities, including Oneida Nation of the Thames, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, and Munsee Delaware Nation. This program is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Seed Grant. The London Arts Council would like to thank OTF for their continued program support.

Developed in response to direct feedback from local artists, the program strengthens pathways to specialized, culturally relevant professional development opportunities for artists. This workshop series equips artists with practical tools and current knowledge needed to build sustainable careers in the arts.

Participants will develop skills in:

  • Creating CVs and portfolios

  • Writing grant applications

  • Managing finances

  • Social media management and strategy

  • Navigating artificial intelligence in artistic practice

Additional learning opportunities include:

  • Guided artist studio visits

  • Museum tour

  • Commercial gallery panel discussion

This series of workshops offers firsthand insight into professional creative processes, business strategies, and paid artistic opportunities. Centred on accessibility, mentorship, and peer networking, the program creates supportive learning environments where artists can build confidence, expand professional networks, and strengthen their creative practices. By investing in the professional growth of visual artists, this initiative supports artistic excellence, cultural vitality, and long-term sustainability within London and surrounding First Nations communities, ensuring that artists are better equipped to contribute meaningfully to the region’s cultural landscape.
